Before & After: Room Redo – Budget $1,000
Nest Interiors transforms this living room into a casual modern space for a family to relax in and to entertain their friends.
The living room walls had already been painted a wonderful cool blue, warm yellow color combination. A neutral sofa and these great red chairs occupied the space, but the room felt uninviting and it needed to be pulled together.
Before
By adding accessories, and making a few adjustments to the seating arrangement, this space is completely transformed into a comfortable, fun, and cozy living room.
After
An area rug and ottoman are used to help ground the space and group the furniture items together. Dark wood tables give the client additional storage and along with the table lamps, help to warm the space. Using a large piece of artwork above the sofa helps to create a focal point within the space. The vibrant red accent in the artwork really works to pull the red chairs into the room making them an important element of the space. Window treatments, mirrors, and some additional artwork soften the space and add character.
This room looks amazing and what’s even better is coming in under budget!

This years Color Trends – What is your favorite?
As predicted by the interior design industry, this years color trends have consisted of muted grays, whites, and soft purples like lilac and misty violet. Daring choices of deep purple have been a hit too! Bursts of bright yellow and pink hues are being used to accent this exciting color pallet.
Another design trend of 2011 is a smaller footprint and an upcycled design approach to living. Reworking and rethinking the items we use, what we consider a necessity, and how we entertain has influenced this trend. Colors in the forefront of upcycle design are hardy blues, deep oranges, and soft yellows, with a raw, natural product line.
Greens came back into vogue this year in a big way. On one end of the spectrum we have seen olive greens and deeper greens that lean towards a brown hue, and on the other end, shades of teal.
Print fabrics are making bold statements! Geometric, plaid, and heirloom design patterns paired together create a vintage, bohemian feel to keep your living environments casual and fresh.
